US Citizenship Test Components

The US Citizenship Test consists of two parts. The details of these two parts are given below:

English Test

The English Test contains different parts that include: Reading, Writing, speaking, and understanding. The USCIS Officer will check your ability to speak, read, and write in English. They may start a conversation with you to check your speaking command. When you want to test centers for giving tests, your speaking and comprehensive tests begin with the greeting phase, and then the officer will ask some routine questions to check the applicant’s basic English Understanding. They can also give you a task of writing, or sometimes they ask you to read some articles or other things to check your English. You can practice all these skills on our website. Our training program also trains you to understand basic English commands.

Civic Test

The civic test contains questions about the US government, its history, and its democratic principles. This test contains 20 questions, and you have to answer at least 12 questions correctly if you want to pass it. The actual test that the applicants give in the test center does not contain multiple-choice options, so you have to remember the answer efficiently. A list of 128 questions is provided to you, and the 20 questions will come from that list. The topics that this list covers are The constitution of the US, the Bill of Rights, the history and geography of the US, current government officials and their roles, the rights of American citizens, etc. You can get a list of all the questions on our website. We also had a flashcard program that could help an applicant remember all the civic questions and answers. The applicants can bring an interpreter with them who knows English and their native language but you have to tell them and get approval from the Test

Bring the Documents

During the test question, the officer will check your conversational ability in English by asking some of the background questions from the applicants that are written in the applicant’s N400 application form. You had to review your forms and remember all the things you had written on them before going for the test. Bring some important identification documents with you to the test center so that you can prove your identity. These documents are:

  • Permanent resident card or document
  • All passports that include valid and expired passport
  • Your state identification card
  • Your appointment notice for the US citizenship test.
  • Travel evidence since you received the green card.
  • Passport size pictures

The appointment notice is compulsory the security will check it. If you do not bring it with you to the test center then the security does not allow you to enter the center. If the USCIS officer requests you to bring some extra documents with you then you have to take them. If you do not bring these extra documents then your citizenship will be delayed or sometimes, they reject because they consider the applicants non-serious. Organize all the documents, cards, and pictures in a file so you cannot panic when they ask for it. Make sure to bring the original as well as the photocopy of all the documents.

However, during the actual naturalization interview, an applicant is asked up to 10 questions from this list, and they must answer at least 6 of them correctly to pass the civics portion of the test. The questions cover topics related to the U.S. government, history, and civics. It’s possible that there have been changes or updates to the test format or questions since then, so I recommend checking the official U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) website or contacting them directly for the most current information.
